Privacy
Scout keeps what it needs to read your sources and write your drafts, nothing more. Here is what that is, who else sees it, and how to remove it.
What Scout keeps
- Your Buffer account: its id, name, email address and time zone, and the access tokens Buffer gives Scout, encrypted.
- Your Anthropic API key, if you bring one: encrypted and tied to your account. Only its last four characters stay readable, to show you which key it is.
- Your setup: themes, sources, run rhythm and the address for run emails.
- Your voice: shared rules and a note per network, drawn from your latest sent posts (up to 20 per channel), with one example post per network. The other posts are read from Buffer and not stored.
- Your runs: the articles Scout suggested (title, link, summary), the ones you kept, and the posts it wrote. Suggested links stay in your log so the same article isn't offered twice.
- A daily tally of what Claude cost for your account, to enforce spending limits.
Approved posts live in Buffer as drafts. Scout keeps their Buffer ids to show what became of them.
Who else sees it
- Buffer: Scout reads your account, channels and sent posts, and creates drafts and ideas, only when you click to do so.
- Anthropic: article text, your themes, your voice and your recent posts are sent to Claude to sort articles and write posts. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, these API requests aren't used to train its models. With your own key, these calls are billed to you.
- Resend: sends the “run ready” email, so it sees the address you set and the email itself.
- IONOS: hosts the server and its database.
- The sites you follow: Scout fetches their feeds and pages from its server. They see Scout's server, not you.
No ads, no analytics, and nothing is sold.
Cookies and browser storage
- One encrypted cookie keeps you signed in for 30 days. Another holds the sign-in exchange with Buffer while you connect.
- Your browser remembers which articles you opened, to fade them in the list. That stays on your device.
Removing your data
You can sign out at any time from Settings, and remove Scout's access from your Buffer account. To delete everything Scout keeps about you, write to contact@scoutsignals.app: it's done within 7 days. Drafts and ideas already in Buffer stay there; you can delete them in Buffer.
Who runs Scout
Scout is an independent project built for Buffer Commit 2026. It isn't made by Buffer. For any question about your data, write to contact@scoutsignals.app.
